Greatest Modern Day Golfer? Plus, Jailbirds, Needles, and Wet Socks This Weekend

This amazing golfing weekend climaxed with Xander Schauffele winning his first major championship, the USPGA with a record breaking 21 under par total at Valhalla Golf Club.

The X man was finally able to put his “wet socks” out to dry when he held his nerve to go wire to wire with a record breaking total, including another 62 opening round.

After so many close calls, he birdied the final hole to win by one over Bryson DeChambeau. Well done Xander for finally getting it over the line but also well done Bryson for a captivating performance.

Bryson has really won the golf crowd over in the past couple of years. Haters are going to hate, of course, but I think he has shown what a great golfer he is and it is fascinating to watch his exploration of the game and technology. His “content” improves over time and he obviously loves to put on a show.

YouTube (and LIV) get some ridicule on Social Media but there is no doubt that some in this field, especially Bryson, are moving the needle.

Oh, and he’s a nice guy!!

It would be remiss not to talk about the world number one, in the men’s game, Scottie Scheffler. What a week for him. Arrested early on Friday morning, to even get back to the course and put any sort of round together was incredible.

His 66 on Friday was incredible, considering. Was it the change in caddie or did events just catch up with the jailbird in the end?

Speaking of world number ones: NELLY FREEKING KORDA!!!! Another incredible, if not her best, performance over the weekend secured her 6th win in 8 starts

This achievement will probably not get the credit it deserves. For all the shills out there, both LIV & PGA, check out the LPGA – the golf is well worth watching.

For the (above) average Joe you may learn a thing or two about the game from players who may (or may not) have similar swing speeds to yourself. That is where the similarity probably ends…

To all the winners this weekend, congrats. Great performances. To all the Tigers out there, but luck next time.

What was the highlight of this golfing weekend?
